American Canyon is accepting community-grant applications from nonprofit organizations that serve local residents. The city's two most recent City Manager's Updates, sent October 2 and October 16, say applications are due Sunday, October 18, 2026.
An earlier update gave a later deadline
The city's September 11 update gave a different deadline: 5 p.m. Thursday, November 12, by email to city staff. The city has not explained the change. The online application and the grant policy do not state a deadline. Organizations unsure which date applies can contact Jenny Cortez at the city, (707) 647-5339 or jcortez@americancanyon.gov.
Who can apply
The program funds programs, services and events by nonprofit 501(c) organizations that benefit American Canyon residents. Under the city's Community Grant Policy:
- Applicants must be nonprofits with current 501(c) status based in American Canyon, and the program must take place within city limits.
- Individuals, for-profit businesses and groups using funds for religious or political purposes are not eligible.
- Grants can pay direct program costs, such as materials, equipment, facility rentals in the city, outreach, permits and staff time for the activity. They cannot pay general administration or ongoing operations.
- The City Council sets program funding each year, and amounts are not guaranteed.
Review schedule
The application form lists three steps:
- November 12: the Parks and Community Services Commission reviews applications and picks applicants to present.
- December 10: selected applicants give three-minute presentations, and the commission finalizes its recommendations.
- December 15: the City Council considers the recommendations and makes the final awards.
The October 16 update also gives November 12 for the commission review. The October 2 update listed November 18 and December 10 instead. These are scheduled steps, not awards.
