American Canyon disaster-risk plan goes to council October 20

Based on 2 sources · most recently checked Oct 16, 2026 · See how we know

American Canyon's council will consider a five-year plan for reducing risks from wildfire, flooding, earthquakes and other natural hazards on October 20, 2026. Staff says adopting it would maintain eligibility for federal grants to reduce disaster damage.

What the plan does

The Napa County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan combines a countywide risk assessment with separate local plans. American Canyon would adopt its own section, which lists local risks, priorities and actions.

Adoption would not authorize a particular construction project or award a grant. Staff reports no direct cost from adoption itself.

Separate decisions

The American Canyon Fire Protection District is a separate participant. Its board would consider its own section later. City staff also plans to bring a related General Plan change to future Planning Commission and council meetings.

How to take part

The October 20 open session starts at 6:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 4381 Broadway, Suite 201, and on Zoom. Written eComments close at 3 p.m. Check the agenda before attending. Council approval and final federal approval remain future steps.

Dated source evidence; the project may have changed since then. An approval does not establish construction or an opening.

Summary

Staff recommends city adoption of the five-year countywide/local risk plan to preserve FEMA mitigation-grant eligibility. City and Fire Protection District annexes are separate; a later General Plan amendment is planned. Adoption has no direct fiscal impact and authorizes no specific construction.
