Vallejo considers affordable-home requirements for new developments

Listed for review by the city; see the dated update below.

Source: City of Vallejo, Planning Commission Regular Meeting — Minutes — 2026-09-09 · checked Oct 2, 2026 · Coverage updated Oct 4, 2026

Citywide

Vallejo is considering rules requiring new housing developments to contribute affordable homes or pay a fee toward affordable housing. For residents, the issue is how future development would help provide homes at affordable prices; the proposal does not establish when homes would become available. On September 9, the Planning Commission recommended applying the rules to projects of 10 or more homes, down from the draft's 20-home threshold. City Council is scheduled to hold a hearing October 27, 2026, at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 555 Santa Clara Street. Residents can attend or submit written comments by 1 p.m. that day. Final adoption and an effective date remain unconfirmed.
